A new face has made his debut here, however he may not be all that new to many students and staff. Ryan Haroldson started off the new year as Superior High School’s new principal, taking over for interim principal Kate Tesch.
Haroldson has been an active and uplifting member of the district since 2011 when he was an assistant principal at the middle school, and he has been leading the Great Lakes Elementary Eagles since 2014. He is eager to jump into the high school setting, bringing the same pride and energy that he’s displayed at the other schools.

“He is very energetic, very positive, he does the hard work, and he is always trying to figure out a solution to problems,” Tesch said.
Tesch has been right at the core of this transition, and feels that Haroldson will provide the high school with the stability they are looking for after a slightly rocky transition into the school year. While this transition period has been challenging due to Haroldson juggling two schools at once, Tesch feels that it has also worked out well because she and Haroldson have known each other since he started at the middle school.
During the month of December, Haroldson has been getting to know everything here from teachers, to students, and even to daily routines. For him, building relationships with the students is one of the most important parts of his job. He just loves talking to the students. According to Tesch, one of his biggest strengths is making connections with people.
“I want there to be really high expectations for students and staff,” Haroldson said.
Haroldson is more than ready to step into the shoes of principal with a specific goal in mind. He wants to make sure that everyone in the building is reaching their potential to the fullest, and he is going to do absolutely everything possible to make that happen.
This is a bittersweet time for him though, because the people at Great Lakes, both students and staff will be truly missed. However, it is encouraging to him that in just a few short years he will be seeing some of these Great Lakes kids again as they transition into high school as well.
From learning a new curriculum, to learning how to say goodbye to Great Lakes, this transition has been hard work that he was more than happy to put in for our school. Whatever the student body needs, he is ready to attack it head on.
“I will work tirelessly, and do anything the students need in order to best support them. It’s incredibly important to me that everyone graduates, and has every door possible open after high school,” Haroldson said.
As Tesch passes the baton to Haroldson, let’s embrace this new chapter, knowing that it will be a fantastic one filled with enthusiasm and spartan pride.
