George Hansen, a former Superior Spartan baseball and hockey player, is currently playing Division 1 baseball for the Oakland Golden Grizzlies. Hansen has been playing baseball at the collegiate level for 3 years, starting with committing to Ellsworth Ellsworth Community College (IA) straight out of high school to be a Left handed pitcher.
Hansen then transferred and later won the 2025 NCAA Division 3 baseball championship at the University of Wisconsin Whitewater. After this huge accomplishment Hansen transferred again to the Division 1 University of Oakland (MI).
This jump from D3 to D1 can be difficult for many athletes as pitching speeds are faster, workouts are more intense and athletes have to put more time into baseball.

In High School, Hansen was a multi varsity athlete playing Baseball and Hockey. In the winter of 2021, Hansen was on the boys hockey team that played in the state championship placing second. In the following spring season he would help the baseball team win their first home playoff game in multiple years.
“There are so many different coaches, teachers, and people who have affected my career path in a positive way. Coach Jason Kalin, Coach Ryan Hendry, Coach Otto Berti, Coach Josh Edwards, Mr. Campbell, Mr. Polkinghorne, Mrs. Kalin, Mrs. Kelly, and obviously Mrs. Hansen (my mom) are people who have always made an impact in my life and still keep in contact with.” Hansen says.
These adults have helped Hansen not just in sports but in the classroom as well. The abundance of coaches and staff at Superior High School helped Hansen work his way up to NCAA Division 1.
