Every year in the NBA playoffs there has always been someone who has something to prove. Whether that being doubted on, not projected to go far or not winning an award. This year that player is Victor Wenbanyama.
Ever since Shai Gilgeous-Alexander won back to back MVP, Wenbanyama has had a chip on his shoulder. “Did any part of tonight feel personal”? A reporter asked. With no emotion in his voice “Yeah, for sure” Wenbanyama responded.
In game one against the Thunder, Wenbanyama had 41 points and 24 rebounds. Game one was a dog fight with it going into double overtime. Wenbanyama only went one for two on three point shots, however his three point shot that was made from the logo helped force the game into overtime. Eventually the Spurs ended up winning 122-115, many people including me say that this was one of the best game ones that they have seen before.
In game two, Wenbanyama continued his dominance on the Thunder, however mostly on defense. Wenbanyama had 17 rebounds, four blocks and a steal. Wenbanyama still excelled on offense with 21 points and six assists in the 37 minutes that he played in. However it was still not enough to stop the Thunder. The score stayed close throughout the game leading up until the fourth quarter. The Thunder ended up pulling away with the win, leaving the score at 122-113.
With the first two games being at OKC, Wenbanyama and the Spurs are hopeful that they can win out at home. If they win out at home they are most likely going to win the series. Everyone can tell that Wenbanyama is out for his revenge on being third on the MVP ballot and is hoping to prove everyone wrong. Game three is being held at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio on Friday May 22, 2026.
