As competition season has been at its peak for local dance studios, dancers share why they enjoy being in studio dance. Lauren Heier and McKellan (Mackey) Caudell both dance at Imperium Dance Company, located in Duluth MN. Neither of them are on the Superior dance team but they are passionate about what they do.
This is Imperium Dance Company’s second year being open and they have already found success with bringing in talented dancers to the studio. They often win overall bests at competitions.
“There’re many different classes that I can choose from and take whenever I want, and I don’t have to be at the studio every night,” Caudell said.
Imperium has a variety of classes that anyone can take depending on what they need to work on the most with a more customizable and beneficial schedule for every single dancer at Imperium.
“Imperium allows flexible scheduling where I am able to pick my classes throughout the week and have choreography every other Sunday. This allows me to actually be a teenager,” Heier said.

Having this flexibility is important for many high school students who want to be included in other activities and be able to have free time and have fun when they aren’t at school. Imperium gives dancers this flexibility: a great thing that every athlete should be able to enjoy.
Although the Superior dance team is a great thing to be included in, just like any other school sport, having these other local dance studios in Superior and Duluth are great to show more diversity throughout dancers. This can also relate to any athlete within any sport in the area and what an important factor it is to work some of these activities into any student’s schedule.
