Senior choir member Olivia Wolbert is quite the prominent figure in the musical community. Taking charge in choir Wolbert is taking on a total of eight songs to perform in 2026’s Solo & Ensemble, along with auditioning for the school musical.
With her role as Gabriella in High School Musical in last year’s performance, it comes as no shock to anyone that in her final year she gets to take on the lead role in this year’s musical: Matilda.
“It’s a little stressful because I’m Matilda and Matilda has a lot of lines and monologues which is basically just telling a big story instead of having a conversation with another character,” Wolbert said.
With everything needing proper time and practice Wolbert makes sure to keep it all organized every day.
“It’s really not that bad, rehearsal, show choir, and normal choir feel really easy just because I have set time every single day for all of those. I am doing one solo, two duets, a quartet, and Spartan Singers are performing two songs, and show choir is performing two songs… I’m doing eight songs.” says Wolbert.
Preparing for solo and ensemble for all kids includes a lesson from a music teacher, in this case, Wolbert has been practicing with choir director Timothy Delnay to feel ready, having to balance rehearsal for the musical and prepping for the fast approaching solo and ensemble on March 24.
“It’s a little stressful sometimes, especially with my quartet. Because there’s three other people and we all have to practice together, but it’s actually really not that bad,” Wolbert says.
Wolbert’s advice to anyone trying to balance school and extracurriculars is to be smart about one’s time.
“Make sure you have time specifically for everything that needs to be worked on but don’t make it overwhelming for yourself,” Wolbert says.
