In the back-and-forth battle between Superior and Hermantown on Feb. 20, the Spartan boys basketball team were able to take the victory on their senior night. The Spartans beat the Hawks 68-56.
Before the game started, all of the seniors were recognized: Aiden Parks, Colson Schumacher, Drew Eisel, Carter St. Germaine, Dawson Ahlborg, Jayce Rue, Ethan Eliason, Calvin Anderson, Kaden Covill, and Landon Anrig and student manager Grady Conlan.
“The seniors have had impacts on the team by being great leaders, knowing their role, and working hard,” said sophomore Beckam Lull.
Despite missing Anderson and Eisel on the court, Anrig led the team finishing with 15 points.

After a competitive first half, the Spartans held a close 33-30 lead and were able to maintain their intensity going in the second half.
Within the last couple minutes of the game and with the score being 66-52, Conlan entered the game wearing Anderson’s jersey which brought lots of cheering and excitement from the fans.
“My goal was just to get in the game, after I got checked in my goal was to score and just a make a few plays. I got a few opportunities to, but they didn’t fall in,” said Conlan.
Superior went on to defeat Denfeld 76-54 in their final regular season game on Feb. 24. They were able to end the season with a record of 18-6, now entering the playoffs being ranked sixth.
