The lights at the NBC Spartan Sports Complex cut through the cold Northland air as the Superior Spartans boys lacrosse prepared for one of their toughest matchups of the season against Proctor/Hermantown Stealth on May 4, 2026.
Fans packed the sidelines, players bounced with nervous energy, and every check, ground ball, and shot carried the intensity of a border battle between two determined programs. Despite the energy and determination from the Spartans, the boys struggled to keep pace with a fast and disciplined Proctor/Hermantown boys lacrosse squad, falling 11-3 by the final whistle.
Proctor/Hermantown controlled much of the game with sharp passing, aggressive defense, and a strong transition attack that kept pressure on Superior throughout all four quarters. Although they lost, many players like Bower Severin refused to let a loss like this happen again.

“I honestly think our defense has come together, and this was probably one of, if not our strongest games communication and performance wise, even though the score might say otherwise,” says Severin.
After the game, Severin reflected on the team’s effort and the lessons they can take moving forward. He acknowledged the challenges of facing a talented Proctor/Hermantown team but emphasized that the Spartans never stopped competing. Severin pointed to the team’s determination and communication as positives they can continue to improve on throughout the season.
While the 3-11 loss was not the result Superior hoped for, the team will look to bounce back in the win column with their next home game on May 8 against the Cloquet Lumberjacks.
