Freshman Ryan Nelson has quickly become an important player for the Superior boy’s varsity hockey team during the 2025-26 season. Even in his first few games, Nelson has shown the impact he can make and continues to prove himself against strong competition.
Nelson’s move from youth hockey to high school hockey has been smooth. He made an early statement by scoring a goal in each of his first two varsity games.
“The team has made it very easy for me to switch from youth to high school hockey, that alongside the summer skates were very helpful,” said Nelson.
When the season ends, Nelson continues to work on his skills by playing for Team Wisconsin, a tier one hockey program.
Last season, Nelson, alongside notable players such as sophomores Thor Netland and Gavin Modeen, as well as freshman Keegan Tikkanen were members of the Superior Spartans Bantam A team that won a state championship. Now playing together again at the varsity level, the young group brings energy and skill to the team.
“I think our chemistry can really help this team, and it gives me hope that we can win a state championship in the future,” Nelson said.
