On the night of Oct. 22, 2025, the Superior High School choir had their first concert. In the Performing Arts Center (PAC), Spartan Singers took the stage to perform “Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.” Timothy Delnay, the choir teacher, commemorated the first concert of the year to the 50th year anniversary of the Edmund Fitzgerald sinking.
Using Edmund Fitzgerald’s sinking anniversary, Delnay was able to find songs that revolved around the ship and the Great Lakes. Spartan Singers were assigned the “Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald” with Gabe Killian and Lili Sakuray to help perform the background instruments. This led to Sakuray and Killian being a main spotlight in the middle of the concert.
“It was just awesome that I got to perform one of my favorite songs in front of families and friends,” Killian said.
The performance captivated many emotions as the Spartan Singers had their solos. Many tears were seen dropping from faces; with some sniffling being heard after the song had finished. The sentimental and sorrowful feelings were felt by many, especially families of the sailors aboard the ship.
“We just wanted to put that in there because it’s been a long time. We want to honor those families, and say we do remember what’s happened,” Delnay said.
The concert was a reminder of the ship and what had happened that fateful November night.
