On the cool autumn afternoon of Oct. 25, the annual Spooktacular parade took the streets of 21st street.
As the streets were packed with the buzz of excitement, and lined with families that were dressed in halloween costumes, the parade started.
“I like doing parades for our community,” Lili Gucinski, a senior twirler said.
The twirlers were towards the back of the parade, where they confidently performed while dressed as Elton John.
“I loved their costumes,” Kayla Bjorlin, a bystander of the parade said.
She also later joked she wished she could twirl like them.

Sterling Silver studios had been participating in the Spooktacular parade since 2014 when their coach, Carolyn Nelson-Kavajecz, had co-founded the Spooktacular.
“I love that the twirlers get a chance to do something for our community,” Nelson-Kavajecz said.
As the parade concluded, the excitement didn’t stop. Instead, the crowd made their way down towards Hammond Park, where they were met with vendors and other spooky activities.
Kavajecz and Gucinski both encourage the community to come together and support and watch the twirlers on their own journeys of twirling.
