In a sport that is built on individual performance, Lily Clark has helped her team in more ways than imaginable both on and off the court.
Having played tennis since the age of eight, Clark has consistently dedicated herself to improving as not only a player, but as a teammate. She leads by example, encouraging positivity and creating an environment where everyone feels supported while still having fun.
Clark’s determination shows in her commitment to putting in the time and effort needed to grow her skills. She understands how important consistency is and is always finding opportunities to learn.
“Even though tennis is an individual sport, teamwork is still important,” said Clark.
During matches, Clark never fails to be there for her teammates, always cheering them on. In my experience, even when I’m missing serves or being hard on myself, I can always hear her encouraging me, giving me the motivation and confidence that I might have lost in the moment.

Clark has had many accomplishments including qualifying for state twice: once in doubles with her sister, Greta Clark, and another time in singles. In her most recent season as a junior, she was also selected as a captain. Outside of sports, she maintains a spot on the A honor roll, balances a job, and still finds time to do things she enjoys.
“Lily shows leadership in a ton of ways. She is a captain for tennis but it’s not just a title for her, she shows leadership and kindness in many aspects. She sets up open courts during the summer, creates the apparel, and takes time to help teach others,” said Ava Dahl.
As many people see only the successes, Clark has also faced challenges. After going undefeated in doubles her sophomore year, she entered her junior season with high expectations in singles. Adjusting to the pressure was not easy and it left her with stress and sometimes anxiety while playing. While this was hard for her at the time, it slowly helped her become stronger and more confident.
Beyond tennis, Clark is involved in many other activities and clubs including soccer, student council, DECA, sportsmanship committee, Spartan Spin, and student-athlete leadership committee where she’s able to show her commitment in learning good values and sportsmanship.
Clark’s ability to balance multiple activities while still maintaining consistency has made her a role model for not only me, but for many others as well. She is a strong captain and represents what it truly means to be a leader in the best way possible by lifting others up while continuing to grow herself.
