Ever since freshman year volleyball season, I knew Tenley Lawton was a great leader. She always was very encouraging and positive during games and practices. She helped those who needed it even during an intense game.
Lawton discovered her love for the sport of softball at the age of eight, when she started playing for the Superior Youth Association (SYO). Growing up she was constantly surrounded by the game. Both of her brothers played baseball and her mom was a softball coach, so she eventually joined in the summer of 2018. She really enjoyed it, making lots of new friends, having her mom as her coach, and even just the aspect of the game she was passionate about.
“I watched my brother play baseball so I had my mom sign me up. I enjoyed meeting new people and also playing with my friends,” said Lawton.
Throughout Lawton’s eight years of playing she has achieved many major goals; one being her earning the title of team captain for the Superior High School softball team. It’s unusual for a sophomore to acquire this role, but Lawton displays great leadership skills which doesn’t go unnoticed by her peers.
Sophomore Emily Eliason has played with Lawton for the past two years of high school and has really noticed her improvement not only as an individual but also as a leader for others.
“’I’ve been playing softball with Tenley for awhile now, and being able to watch her grow as a player and person on and off the field has been amazing to see. She’s a positive influence for everyone and always pushes the girls to do their best. She provides support and helpful tips to support everyone into becoming their best.” said Eliason.
Lawton is an amazing friend and uses her leadership role to its fullest, helping anyone and everyone.
