The week of Jan. 26, Assistant Principal Kari Saunders held several meetings in Superior High School’s Performing Arts Center (PAC) to inform students about the new rules being enforced throughout the entire Superior School District as a whole.
After working at the district office, she came to Superior High School with a mission: helping make the school a more positive place to be.
The biggest new changes in policies include an “Away for the Day” policy that was already in action, but now includes putting your phone in a calculator caddy at the beginning of class and grabbing it at the end.
We also got a new stipulation in our attendance policy. Originally, students had 15 minutes to arrive to class to get a tardy, and beyond that was an absence. Now, they have five minutes to arrive to class to get a tardy, and beyond that is an absence that will result in lunch detention.
“Being on time is truly a life skill,” Saunders said.
With these new policies, Saunders hopes to improve productivity in kids, meaning being to class on time, coming prepared, and minimizing distractions from phones.
With student and staff cooperation, the changes in policies are expected to go as smoothly and positively as possible.
