The girls’ hockey team members each acknowledged a teacher of their choice on Wednesday, Feb. 4 at their home rink in SAHA. There were four senior girls that honored a teacher that night, one of them being Lexi Kimmes. Kimmes decided to show appreciation for her Spanish teacher Kim Smith.
Kimmes has been Smith’s student for three years now. Over that time, Kimmes and Smith have built a strong bond.
“If there is anything I ever need to talk about or get off my chest, I know I could go and talk to her and she would give me the best advice that she could,” said Kimmes.
Kimmes decided to choose Smith because she felt a strong connection with her teacher, she explains that Smith is interested in her students’ lives and is always checking up on each and every one of them.
“I was super flattered,” said Smith, “I was very happy she chose me.”

Smith tries her hardest to make class a comfortable learning environment for her students. Kimmes says her class is small and they play games together in class to help students feel engaged.
“Lexi is hardworking, but also extremely funny,” said Smith.
Smith makes it clear that Kimmes is hardworking in her academics but is also a student that is fun to have in her classroom. Beyond teaching her, Smith says she enjoys having a laugh with Kimmes.
