As fall is coming to an end many students are preparing for winter. This means an entire new playlist switch up. There are lots of debates on what the best winter music is and why it’s the best.
The number one most voted song for winter time is Last Christmas by Wham!. Wham!’s song Last Christmas is about a love that was given and was disregarded. In the song, Wham! states that “Last Christmas I gave you my heart and the very next day you gave it away.” It has an up beat tone but with sad lyrics talking about how this year he is going to protect his heart.
The band Wham! was formed in 1981. Their number one song Wake Me Up Before You GO-GO was released in 1984 it was nominated for many grammys for best pop performance by a duo or a group. Wham! was most popular from 1984 to 1986 but still has fans especially on their hit Christmas song.
The second most voted song for winter time is Jingle Bell Rock by Bobby Helms. Helm’s song Jingle Bell Rock has the beat and the idea of a rock and roll song with holiday festivities. The message behind the song is holiday cheer and wanting an uplifting song for the holiday season.
Helm started singing with his siblings and formed The Helm Brothers. The brothers appeared on the Hayloft Frolic show. Soon after his debut he was asked to sing background for Ernest Tubb. This gave him connections to be able to get his own recording deal. Jingle Bell Rock was nominated for a few awards but never actually won.
