Senior captain Addy Benson stepped on the field for the third overtime unsure of who or what team would score the final goal. Her adrenaline was pumping and although they had already played 56 minutes, the uncertainty gave her a boost to engrave her name, yet again, in Spartan history.
Benson scored the game winning goal in the Spartans 10-9 win over Duluth Marshall on Apr. 16. Freshman Naiyah Tinsley was in the net for the Superior girls lacrosse’s first ever regular season game win. Senior captain Lexi Kimmes started off the game with the first goal.
“The first goal gave us momentum, lots of energy, and hope that we are in this game and it’s not going to turn out like Tuesday night and previous games,” said Kimmes.

The game was back and forth, so it was either team’s game. However, for Superior there was something to prove. This is the third year of lacrosse at Superior HIgh School, and the girls team had not won a regular season game until now, but they did win their first playoff game the very first year, spring of 2024.
“We have set the standards for the team now. We have brought the captains in to be more involved, set those standards and applied them. We have built a new culture, and so we were really excited about that take off, as well as year three will be that build for our program that can hopefully be established for years to come,” said Anderson.
There are three seniors on the team this season, all of which were able to score in this win. Superior is heavy with under classmen with 15 freshmen this season.
