There are many ways that someone can enjoy a concert and it all depends on the listener. Symphony Hall and AMSOIL Arena are two popular venues in the Duluth/Superior area. What makes an artist choose their venue? When it comes to an experience it all depends on what kind of show the performer is looking to produce.
“A show’s venue is dependent on expected number of ticket sales and what type of venue the artist is wanting to play. Symphony Hall can seat up to 2,300 people whereas AMSOIL is best for 3,000-6,000 people,” DECC Entertainment Booking Manager Kimberly Carr Said.
Usually when it comes to shows the smaller 3,000 seat arenas are made for more intimate experiences like an acoustic show or a story teller tour. Some people have a hard time standing through these concerts, so we asked Sigfrids how she is able to do it.
“If it’s a standing event I rely on the energy of the music to keep me standing the whole time, it’s really hard because I like to enjoy the music and if I’m blocked by somebody standing in front of me because of the seats or not having enough energy to want to stand,” Sigfrids said.
Some experiences are also based on the venue. Connection is very important at a concert and can be very hard to connect with a small group of people at a big venue like AMSOIL.
“(Symphony Hall) is one of my favorite local venues because again you can be seated and you can see the performer and it’s more comfortable,” Stated Sigfrids
“(AMSOIL) depending on the artist I liked it less but I think it was because of the crowd and the situation the way things were so busy and the movement, the seats didnt give me a good line of view, I like more of a small intimate concert venue it’s more of my kind of speed,” Sigfrids said.
Some concerts are also at exclusive venues like at Red Rocks in Colorado, The Grand Ole Opry and The Ryman. The Ryman and Grand Ole Opry are famously known for their wide variety of artists and surprise guests which can make it a once in a lifetime experience.
“We also saw him (John Prine) at the Ryman in Nashville, and the performers that were with him, they were surprise performers. Sturgill Simpson and some other people that I’ve never seen before they were just so amazing. The two venues, the Ryman and Red Rocks were just so different so it makes them equally amazing with the same artist.” states Sigfrids.
It’s easy to say that people perceive music and concerts differently. Whether it’s something that blows you away or the stories behind the music. The main difference is not the music itself but how long you’ll remember that experience.
