Boys hockey lost 1-0 against the Cloquet Lumberjacks on Jan. 27.
The game stayed tight the entire time, both teams playing to their best potential. The Lumberjacks and Spartans stayed tied 0-0 until the last minutes of the game.
The team together kept hope as they knew the moment less effort was given they could be put behind.
“The longer we were able to stay in the game, the more our guys understood we had a chance,” said head coach Rob Downs.

Seniors defenseman Sam Hubbard and wingman Maverik Milroy played to their fullest during the close game. Milroy showed through his effort in the game how badly he wanted the win for his team.
“A huge asset he possesses is great confidence when he takes the ice,” said Downs.
Hubbard bounced from player to player trying his best to put space in front of his net, giving an overall great physical presence near the net. It didn’t allow for the Cloquet opponents to recover quickly from their mistakes.
“His physicality around the net is what is needed to clear lanes for goalies to see the puck, as well as being strong to clear people out in front to reduce the amount of second chances,” said Downs.
The Spartan boys hockey team traveled down to Hibbing on Jan 29 and suffered another loss, 7-0.
They are waiting to receive their playoff seed results and are hoping for a positive outcome for future games.
