Freshman Nora Madsen has been lighting it up on the girls hockey team. She has played five varsity games, scoring two goals while having five total assists, which leads the team in points. In more ways than one, this freshman contributes to the team with a positive attitude and a shining work ethic.
Last year as an eighth grader, Madsen was a key component to the 14U team and contributed by being one of the leading scorers. Freshman Maci Heytens played alongside her and is also on the high school team this season.
“Playing at the 14U level gave Nora the confidence to focus on developing her game, which made adjusting to the speed of high school hockey come easily. She’s always been a strong player to have on the ice, no matter what team we’ve played on together,” said Heytens.
The transition from 14U to high school can be challenging for some freshmen, with the pace and level being a lot different. However, with Madsen leading the team in points, that doesn’t seem to be the case for her.
“I don’t think that I could perform at this level without my teammates. They’ve helped me quickly learn, and have also created a great environment for me to grow on and off ice,” said Madsen.
The Superior High School girls hockey team is also combined with Northwestern girls. Madsen’s recent line partners are Superior’s Addy Benson, and Northwestern’s PaisLee Lystig.
“I like how she takes accountability, we can talk as wing pairs together, plan ahead, and still have a good time laughing,” Lystig said.
In the 2025 Culver’s Cup Tournament in Madison, Madsen showed her significance by participating in multiple power play opportunities and being a playmaker by getting five assists in the three games played in the tournament. This is the Spartans’ fourth consecutive win of the Culver’s Cup where they play against teams like the Central Wisconsin Storm who (in past years) they have had to play in state playoffs.
