Senior Calvin Anderson stood on the free throw line with one goal circling his mind.
Fans held their breath, “snowing” him for good luck in his attempt to make history. Anderson went through his routine, and took his shot. Swish!
Anderson had just cemented himself in Superior basketball history by breaking the single game scoring at a staggering 42. He is glad to finally get this off his chest after a chance earlier in the season against D.C. Everest didn’t go his way, where he fell short in a career high 37-point game.
“First game of the year, I could have done it,” Anderson recalled. “I missed a couple free throws and some layups, but being able to do it today was crazy. My coach left me in and said, ‘Make this free throw and I’ll pull you out.’ And that was the one to break the record.”
Anderson has been a key player for the Spartans and continuously performs at a high level each game, pushing his team to a 5-0 start to the season.
Prior to the season, Anderson officially signed with the Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs to continue his career playing NCAA basketball.
While Anderson hit the 1,000 points mark last season and has now secured the single game scoring record, he still has one more record to steal.

Anderson’s 42-point performance on Monday places his high school career points at 1,354, only 26 points from the all time record held by Joel Lindberg.
This record is immense for Anderson and his fans, but he hopes it comes naturally so that he does not force shots.
“It’s a lot of pressure. I just want to come out, play my game, and hopefully the ball falls the right way. And it would be nice to do it at home,” Anderson said.
The Spartans next game is on Dec. 12 at Superior High School against Esko. Fans can show their support by attending and being there for Anderson’s shot at breaking this record.
