Boys and girls hockey started off their seasons against Hayward in a double header at SAHA. The games took place on Nov. 21 as the first of the 2025-2026 winter sports season. The boys ended with a triumph over the hurricanes, while the girls fell just short.

Spartan boys varsity were able to finish with a win over the Hurricanes. They went 3-0 with a shut out from senior goalie Ryan Pettingill. The first goal was scored in the first period by senior defender Rylan Davis. The second goal was scored by freshman Ryan Nelson. Nelson’s first high school goal was scored in the 14th minute of the second period. The third and final goal was scored by senior forward Easton McGuire. The Spartans will face off next against Two Harbors at home. They will be playing at Wessman arena at 7pm.

Girls varsity held off the Hurricanes until early in the third period. In the net for the Spartans was junior Evie Jenkins. Senior defender Lexi Kimmes felt they performed well even though they lost.
“There are definitely things we need to work on, but I’m excited to see what our team will do the rest of the season,” said Kimmes.

The boy will face off next on Friday, Nov. 28, against Notre Dame. They are currently 2-0 after their win over Northshore on Monday, Nov. 24. The girls will match up on Tuesday Nov. 25, away versus Moose Lake.
