I first met counselor and softball coach Amanda Kishish at a softball game my freshman year. I was managing because I couldn’t play, as I had surgery a few months prior. I was very anxious, but while I was standing by the dugout, Kishish just started talking to me. I knew from there that I knew that no matter there was somebody who cared about my opinion, how my day went, or just about anything that I had to say.
“I have always loved working with kids but being a teacher would have been too much for me. I enjoy problem solving and I like helping the students find who they are and working through tough situations,” said Kishish.
Kishish went to college as UW-Superior to play softball. She is now one of the pitching coaches for the softball team.
“I like seeing the girls get better, I like working with them on certain things and seeing their improvement. I also love making relationships with them and having another trusted adult is always good to have,” said Kishish.
Aside from making such an amazing impact on the players, she has always had a connection with teacher and softball head coach Bobbijean Gidley.
Kishish and Gidley met in the fourth grade and have been in school together ever since, and now they get to work at the same school.
“Amanda has influenced me by her continuous support. Amanda has been with me through every major event in my life and has been a person that has helped me grow. I think Amanda has helped me see the brighter side of things, help me make the most out of every situation, and reminds me to stay calm and that everything will work out- even when we got trapped in Italy,” said Gidley.
Gidley always enjoys having someone that keeps her well-rounded as a coach.
“I think that Amanda and I help balance each other; we have heard the joke that she is the good cop and I am the bad cop,”said Gidley.
Kishish is an amazing coach and counselor who is always helpful whether it is on or off the field. If you haven’t had a chance to meet her yet, stop by her office in the counseling area.
