Sparty the mascot’s head sits vacant next to the costume bag in the Athletic Office Nov. 16, 2023

Sparty the Spartan has been missing from a lot of home games. Why is this? There have not been enough auditions for the position of Sparty, despite being open since September.

Athletics Director Ella Olson Originally hosted the auditions Sept. 6th. A total of four people filled out the application for the audition. However, no one showed up to the actual tryouts.

“The crowd goes quiet when there is no Sparty”, Olson said. When the crowd is quiet, the energy of the players goes down as well.

Student section leader Senior Autumn Cooper has a great time at the home games that she attends. Cooper stated that Sparty brings the crowd up, and the crowd gets energized by the showing of the mascot

“Sparty is a good representation of our school, and our school spirit,” Cooper said.

Olson is looking for a consistent person to be Sparty. If you would like to audition for Sparty, email Ella Olson at [email protected].
