The phone policy is very flawed and is in need of some major work and adjustments. I get it’s to make us interact more with others and to get us to pay attention in class but it could be very dangerous to not let us use our phones from time to time. It’s completely unruly to have us go all the way down to the main office to be able to make a call to a parent. For all we know, someone’s parent could’ve gotten into an accident and their student would have to go all the way to the office to be able to call them and ask what’s going on instead of just being able to step out and make that call. We should be able to prove it’s our parent to the teacher and step out to talk to them (parent). We also should be able to be on our phones during lunch, there is no reason to not do so, and fill our parents in on what’s going on, like if ‘an intruder showed up today and has been taken care of’. Not being able to tell our parents until school is over is very unsafe. I remember being told by another student burning a fire alarm that a teacher was practically yelling at her to put her phone away when she was just texting her parents letting them know she was ok. It is not ok when a teacher does something like that DURING an emergency. That teacher would do the exact same thing if their child was in a dangerous situation. I believe the staff should review the policy and change it to make it more safe for the students and parents well beings.
