On Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2023, Junior Melania Luostari committed to Auburn University for softball, in Alabama. Luostari will be the second softball player from SHS to play Division 1 softball.
The Superior Spartans softball team made a run to state last year, going 27-1 overall in their season. They are hoping to make it back this year for the third year in a row. Teammates of Luostari’s, Alayna Degreaf and Avery Visger have already committed to colleges as well. Degreaf plans on going to Bemidji State while Visger is committed to UW-River Falls.
Visger has played with Luostari for two years, going on three. “Melania has always been dedicated, hardworking, and a good teammate. She is one of the hardest working people I know and I knew she was going to go somewhere big from all of her hard work she put in. It is the time she puts in when she isn’t playing games that makes her who she is today,” Visger said.
“My goal is to do as best as I can. I mean, obviously, I wanna try to get as much playing time as possible and hit some home runs,” Luostari said.
Although Luostari is committed to Auburn, this is only her junior season. She will still have another year to show off her talents and prove why she deserves to be in this position.
