Quarantine Christmas movie review trio

By Cole Stallsmith

With the spirit of Christmas, I was trapped at home due to the virus that haunts us like the ghost in “A Christmas Carol.” With nothing to do, I watched three movies. The first movie was “Rise of The Guardians,” the second movie I watched was “The Mask,” and the third movie was “A Christmas Carol.”

My opinion on “Rise of the Guardians” is that it’s a great family movie, especially a great movie for kids. It has all the holidays in one and it will keep the believers believing. In “Rise of the Guardians,” the Guardians are trying to protect holiday spirit and belief. The Guardians are made up of all different holiday legends, like Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny. Pitch Black, the villain, is trying to make everyone afraid and make it so they don’t believe in any holiday legends, but there was one kid who still believed because he saw the Guardians in person and was the last believer. He ended up helping the Guardians and then his friends started believing because he talked them into believing. Because of this, the Guardians were able to defeat Pitch Black.

My opinion on “The Mask” is that it’s a great comedy. It isn’t a holiday movie but it will make everyone laugh, no matter the age. There isn’t a lot of violence, as it’s a love story in a way. “The Mask” is Jim Carrey’s first major movie. The movie was based on a mask, as the title states, but the mask was special and if you put this mask on, it would change you. For main character Stanley Ipkiss, he became a helpful guy until he put it on and eventually robbed a bank. He was not able to control the mask yet. He wanted money so the mask made him rob a bank. He ended up meeting a girl that he fell in love with, but she only fell in love with the mask. Then, she got to know the real guy and she fell in love with him. The girl then got kidnapped by her ex-boyfriend and a bomb was strapped to her. Then she was tied up and the ex boyfriend got the mask from Ipkiss turning him into a monster. Eventually, Ipkiss got the mask back and saved everyone and his love and they lived happily ever after.

My opinion on “A Christmas Carol” is that it’s interesting. There isn’t really a story behind it. It’s all based on one guy, Ebenezer Scrooge, and ghosts appear to make him realize his wrongs and it makes no sense. It was a great movie but it is way different from the play. Scrooge doesn’t end up going to his past with the Christmas ghost. He ended up just seeing what was going on at Christmas because of the ghost of the Christmas present.

“The movie was good but wasn’t my favorite,” sophomore Erik Craven said.

He believed that the movie made no sense, it didn’t have a timeline and it was boring. The one thing he said he liked about the movie was that Scrooge went from mean and angry all the time to being nice and kind to everyone all due to the ghosts that visited him.
