Over 250 wrestlers from all over Wisconsin and Minnesota high schools came together for the annual 37th Spartan Classic Jan.13. Bayfield, Chequamegon, Cloquet, East ridge, Eau Claire Memorial, Grand Rapids, Ladysmith, Northwestern, Proctor, Ashland, and Virginia competed at the meet. Wrestlers hit the mat for a total of 333 Varsity and 129 Junior Varsity matches.

“We were sixth out of 12 which was a nice job for us,” Head Coach Bob Coleman said.

A few Spartans earned special placings in the competition. Senior Captain Caden Stone (160 Lbs) earned 1st place in the competition, marking his 100th win of his varsity career.

Junior Wyatt Johnson (113 Lbs) and Connor Krueger (106 Lbs) earned 2nd places in the competition.

“I am very proud of them.  They have worked through a lot of stuff this season and they just keep working and getting better,” Coleman said.

The Spartans are set to wrestle again Jan. 16, 7 P.M., against Hayward at Superior High.
