Senior Niya Wilson joined the golf team this fall to complete her senior project. Despite Wilson being a newcomer on the team, her presence has created a huge impact.

The first meet of the season Coach Ed Willie put Wilson on varsity playing 18 holes.

I was nervous coming in that I was going to be terrible compared to everyone else,” Wilson said.

Her main goal was to improve her game and to encourage her teammates to have fun. Her teammates and coaches said that she brings a friendly outgoing spirit to the team that has brought the team closer on and off the golf course.

“With such a young team no one felt comfortable. Niya’s energy and maturity made it a lot easier for the girls,” Willie said.

Wilson said she will continue golfing as a fun pastime but not as a competitive sport after this year.
