The Spartans girls’ varsity basketball game ended 53-44 with the Spartans winning against Duluth East last night in the Coaches vs. Cancer game at the SHS gym. The Spartans came out with another win to their record, and they never took their foot off the gas.

Senior Chloe Kintop led the Spartans with her 20 point contribution, junior Niya Wilson chipped in 17 and senior Lauren Raboin had 11.

“I feel really good about tonight. I couldn’t have done it without my team. They helped a lot tonight,” Kintop said. “The best moment of tonight was locking up on defense and pulling through.”

The Spartans improved to 6-5 (4-2 Lake Superior Conference).

Junior varsity won 37-35, recording their first win of the season and advancing to 1-10.

The girls’ C-Team won last night, 41-23, improving their record to 8-1.

Senior basketball player Julie Haller and senior Paige Leinon worked together to put on the Coaches vs. Cancer event. Shirts and hats were sold. Raffles and game-worn jerseys were auctioned off. All proceeds raised were donated to the American Cancer Society.

The girls’ JV and varsity teams will play Duluth Marshall on Jan. 22 at SHS.
