Senior Tailyn Bennett joined archery in sixth grade with the dream of one day winning state. On March 24 in Wisconsin Dells, that dream came true. Bennett received first place out of 400 girls and placed sixth overall in a tough competition.

“The girl who got second place was in sixth grade,” Bennett said.

Bennett was apart of the first group that shot that day at 9:00 AM. She shot twice, once at a target and another time at a 3D object. Final results were shared at 8:00 PM

“I think it was 8 o’clock Saturday night and they said final results and I was at the top,” Bennett said.

An important part of preparing for state was practice and not psyching herself out. When the time came for result, Bennett still was surprised at the results.

“I couldn’t believe it because I thought that 291 out of 300 was a lower score to win state, but then I kept refreshing the page after I saw I was number one,” Bennett said.

Bennett will be going down to Kentucky to compete in nationals on May 10 and 11.
