I walked into the office the day of the Nelson interviews practically shaking, but as soon as I was greeted with Christy Biolo’s smiling face I was put at relative ease. Though still slightly nervous, Biolo calmly went over the process with me once again as if I hadn’t read and reread her email a million times. With her reassurance, I sat down much more confident than I was when I first walked into the office.
Not only has Biolo helped me, but she has helped so many people in the three years she has been in her position as Scholarship Secretary.
“She gave me a lot of information about when they were due, how to fill them out, and who to talk to,” senior Ellen Hollenbach said.

Hollenbach has had a great experience with. Biolo, and she felt much more comfortable and confident applying to scholarships with her help. Seniors would recognize her emails about deadlines and scholarships they may be eligible for, so all of her help does not go unnoticed. Biolo sends emails out to both students and parents about scholarships, and never fails to promptly reply to questions they may have.
The attendance secretary, Elaine Holmberg, sees Biolo work everyday, so she has a good gauge on how she interacts with students. Holmberg emphasized how much she does for the school, and describes her as organized, efficient, and fun. Not only does she organize scholarships, but she also covers for Holmberg whenever needed.
“I’m not 100% sure what she does. She’s always busy doing something though”, Holmberg said.
Biolo certainly does a lot for the school. This year, the school is giving out $382,000, in around 209 individual scholarships. That is a life changing amount of money, which is going to benefit so many students. The school has a wide variety of scholarships, and Biolo’s favorite part is making sure everyone gets a scholarship that is right for them.
“As far back as I know, anybody who applies has gotten a scholarship,” Biolo said.
Past, current, and future seniors have Biolo’s hard work and passion to thank for their success in applying for scholarships.
