Senior Emma Ferg has shown outstanding character throughout her enrollment in the Superior School District. Ferg participates in several extracurriculars, such as girls hockey, soccer, student council, and Hope Squad. Ferg is an exceptional athlete, but her true passion lies in teaching the younger generation.
“I knew I wanted to be a teacher since I was young. I’ve always loved working with kids,” Ferg said.
Ferg began working at Great Lakes Elementary in 2023, helping with the after school program. In 2024, Ferg was hired as a paraprofessional and spent time in classrooms working with elementary students. She spends the majority of her time teaching alongside Cariann Kinn, an elementary teacher at Great Lakes. While working in the classroom, Ferg works one on one with the students, teaching core subjects alongside Kinn.
“Emma is compassionate and caring but also has high expectations for our students. She knows the right mix of what each kid needs from her at what time. She fits in so well with my students and my teaching style,” Kinn shared.

An accomplishment that Ferg achieved this school year was being selected as the recipient of the Hobey Baker award for the Superior girls hockey team. The award is presented to a senior who embodies the values that the game teaches; coachability, strength of character, integrity, commitment, teamwork, community building and outstanding sportsmanship.
“It made me feel really great and I felt very appreciated to receive the Hobey Baker Award,” Ferg said.

Ferg has been playing hockey since she was seven years old. She started her career on the ice at SAHA and continued to play for Superior. Ferg hopes to continue playing hockey next year at UWEC for the club hockey team.
This year, Ferg decided to try out for the soccer team. She hadn’t played competitively in years, but was able to make the JV team and has been successful diving into her new opportunity. She scored two goals in the junior varsity game against Washburn on April 14, 2025. Ferg continues to show amazing character and pride about being a part of our Spartan community.
