Dear Spartan Spin,
Within Communications class (COMM 110), we have begun our unit of group work and
working together in order to solve school wide issues. Together my group and I have chosen the
topic of C lunch, our problem mostly focusing on the amount of food that C lunch typically
contains, specifically the homemade lunch line.
As many of you would know, either having C lunch as of right now, or previously, and if
you have never had I am sure you have heard about it, C lunch being the last lunch does not
have quite the amount of food as the others and typically runs out quickly. The homemade lunch
line consists mostly of meals like, pastas, baked/mashed potato, loaded fries, ect. And
throughout all of the lunches it is clear the line is very long, however for those in C lunch it
presents them with the problem to A) wait in line and possibly not get food (which can then lead
to other food option closing due to also running out), B) wait so long that you only have a limited
amount of time to eat, or C) skipping the line overall and not getting something you would like to
eat. Our solution to this problem is to possibly get rid of the sandwich line as a whole and
instead make that a secondary line for the homemade lunch line. This would make lunch lines
shorter and therefore those who aren’t dismissed until later still have a chance to get in line and
not wait as long, relieving some of the anxiety students may have about not getting the lunch
they want. If the sandwich line is an issue to get rid of due to dietary needs, we could move it
over to where the hot dogs are.
Another issue that has been brought to our attention is with the dismissal at lunch,
dismissing one side over the other more often. This creates unfairness as it means those who
are dismissed first are able to have first pick, then those who are usually dismissed last. Our
solution to this problem has (for the most part) been fixed, as we recently had a chance to
speak to Mr. Denninger about the dismissal and how it works, he stated that everyday they try to
and have a schedule for what side of the cafeteria they dismiss first. Those in C lunch haven’t
really reported seeing this in action but more so in the past week it has been more apparent
they are trying to improve on this.
Thank you for the consideration,
Avery Prochazka, Nathaniel Furey, Evan Blomfelt, Jack Mueller, & Ava Gudowski
