Softball

The softball team has been busy starting off the week with three home games back to back days. In the first game, the girls took on the Cardinals of Chippewa High School in a double header where the Spartans won the first game 4-0 with RBIs (Runs Batted In) from seniors Melania Loustari, Arianna Robillard and Paige “Peeps” Johnson. Game two was a much closer game with a final score of 10-9 with a Spartan win. With the Cardinals taking an early lead, putting up four runs in the first inning, the Spartans cut their lead down to two. The Cardinals put up five more in the next few innings. The momentum switched in favor of the Spartans, shutting down the Cardinal offense and putting up seven runs in the last two innings.

The team went into Tuesday with a lot of momentum off a six-game win streak where they took on the Hunters of Denfeld High School. The Spartans emerged victorious 15-0. Johnson went 3-3 with one homerun and a double, having three RBI’s. Senior Paige B. Johnson also went 3-3 with a double and a triple with three runs. Sophomore Halle Visger went 2-3 on Tuesday with a double with two RBIs and two runs, extending their win streak to seven. Catch the Spartans back in action on Wednesday, May 14, facing off against the Hibbing Bluejackets.

Track

Girls track won first place with 151.50 points out of 15 teams at the Ashland Invite on May 5. Boys track took home second place with 134 points out of 13 teams.

Sophomore Adelynn Severin came in second in the 400-meter dash. Junior Elena Almonte came in first in the 1600 meter and the 3200 meter. Freshman Jenna Leask placed second in the 1600 meter dash. Junior Aiden Parks came in second in the 100-meter dash and first in the 200-meter dash. Junior Liam Flores came third in the 400-meter dash. Senior Bryce Buerger, juniors Brendan Farrell and Isaiah Jordan, and sophomore Max Hoffman placed third in the 4×8 relay. Juniors Jesse Anderson, Taynum Clark, Beckett Selden, and sophomore Maxton Luzaich claimed first place in the 4×200 relay.

Junior Madison Bickford, senior Alivia Visger, sophomore Jayla Ludwig, and freshman Elizabeth Schmid placed first in the 4×200 relay. Bickford, junior Veronica Acurero, sophomore Hailey Trapp, and Schmid placed second in the 4×100 relay. In the 4×100 meter boys relay, placing first place was senior Micky Little, Clark, senior Logan Asuma, and Parks. Sophomore Versii Kavajecz, freshman Dane Bird, sophomore Jayson Hutchins, junior Maverick Milroy took third in the 4×400 meter relay. Acurero placed second in pole vault. Sophomore Avery Waletzko took third in pole vault. Little took third in pole vault. Asuma took second in the long jump. Sophomore Breanna Myer took first in the triple jump. Luzaich took third in the triple jump. Selden took third in shot put. Senior Garet Rivord took second in discus throw.
