Senior Belle Modeen, along with 65 of her peers advanced onto the Wisconsin School Music Association state Solo and Ensemble festival. Districts were held on Wednesday, March 26, 2025. Where musicians from the middle and high schools of Drummond, South Shore, and Ashland were also in attendance to perform string, vocal, wind, brass, and percussion pieces for the judges.
“My favorite part was listening to other events from orchestra and choir, but I also loved singing my pieces, especially my different language songs,” Modeen said.
In solo and ensemble, there are three separate classes: Class A, which are the most advanced pieces, Class B, which is more intermediate, and Class C, which is typically more beginner/intermediate pieces.
Musicians are scored on a scale from one to five, with one being the best score. When a student performs an event with a Class A piece, they have a chance to qualify for state. A star next to the score of one indicates a student has qualified for state.
State will be held at the University of Wisconsin Eau-Claire on May 3, 2025.
