Girls hockey fell short to the Hayward Hurricanes on Feb. 25 in the sectional semi-final game in double overtime. The final score was 4-3, the Hurricanes will advance to the sectional finals against Central Wisconsin Storm on Mar. 1, 2025 at Wessman Arena.
The Spartans striked first, scoring their first goal in the first period from senior forward Emma Ferg.
The Hurricanes and Spartans were back and forth all game until the third period. Senior Makaela Reinke scored the second goal, bringing the energy back for junior Michaela Geissler to score the tying goal sending the game into overtime.
After two eight-minute overtime periods, the Hurricanes triumphed over the Spartans and scored to end the game.
For Spartan seniors, this was their last game at SAHA.
“I’m grateful for the three years that I got to be a Spartan, and I wouldn’t change it for anything,” Reinke said.
Reinke will be continuing her hockey career at Gustavus Adolphus.
The Spartans finished their season with a record of 18-6, with many accomplishments that they and the community can be proud of.
