Every Thursday, our school buzzes with excitement thanks to math teacher Brent Hipp’s “Crocin’ Thursday” tradition. For three years, Hipp has led this weekly theme day, aiming to bring a fun, different experience to the school.
He started it because he wanted to be the first teacher to have a weekly theme day. Hipp’s love for Crocs began 12 years ago with a black pair that was too big for him. He does not have a collection, just one pair at a time, replacing them when needed.
He likes that Crocs are affordable and accessible.
“It’s a shoe out there that you can buy regulars and knockoffs. It’s not an expensive shoe. I thought it was something anyone can have,” Hipp said.
For Hipp, Crocs are practical and versatile.
“Crocs are multi-use. You can wear them for dress, doctors and nurses wear them, you can wear them gardening, you can wear them swimming because they float,” said Hipp.
This practicality and the sense of community it brings make Crocin’ Thursday special. Many students join in, some wearing Crocs everyday.
