Ever since senior Jackson Nelson started playing paintball, he could not stop. He fell in love with the sport especially when he is playing with friends.
“Paintball is one of the top five things to do around our town. The first time I ever played paintball was in 2018 for my friend Gavin Roush’s birthday party,” said senior Jackson Nelson.
When COVID-19 hit, they did not play again until everything opened up again. After COVID, Roush joined the local team and invited Nelson to play. It was not until Jackson got his first job and bought his first paintball gun, known as a marker, that he started playing more.
Nelson is currently on a local team called the Lake Superior Legacy Paintball. He travels out of state for tournaments. Nelson has played in ten non-local tournaments, ranging from three to ten men teams.
“The more guys on the field the better, because you are with more of your boys. It is a lot more in depth. My heart is probably in 5 man. High tempo, high action. If you watch the pros they are all playing 5 man xball,” said Nelson.
Nelson says the ideal weather for playing paintball is 60’s-70’s.
“It can not be super humid or cold because all the paint bounces. I like the ground a little wet because you slide a bit more when you hit the ground,” said Nelson.
Nelson recommends paintball for people who are not into the team sport setting.
“Just go out there, it’s a blast,” said Nelson.
