During the first week of Nov. 2024, juniors Michael Pearson and Michael Fiegle attended an invite only baseball prospect camp in Vanderbilt, Tenn. The camp ran from Nov. 2, to Nov. 3, and invited players from all over the US to attend.
Fiegle finds Vanderbilt a dream school of his and was excited to receive the invitation. Fiegle plans on playing high level (division 1) baseball, and he said this camp will help him do so, hoping to either receive a scholarship or a walk-on (a try-out without receiving an offer). This invitation symbolized more than just a camp, however.
“(It meant) A lot because this was one of my dream schools and getting to see how that practice trains and how they do things around there,” Fiegle said.
Pearson was invited to come down and stay with Fiegle. Pearson was excited to receive the opportunity to attend something that big and important, and enjoyed the experience it provided.
“It was very eye opening, I’d say, all of the kids down there were very good at baseball,” Pearson said.
The camp consisted of multiple kinds of drills, covering specifics based on what position you played, and scrimmages over the 2 day period. Fiegle plays first base primarily, meaning he was separated from Pearson, who plays second base.
Both Pearson and Fiegle enjoyed the camp, and they did not regret going. The camp helps players who wish to play at a higher level get noticed by scouts. Both hope to go to a D1 school, but both acknowledge the amount of effort they put into receiving this opportunity and the effort required to advance.
