Sophomore Isabelle Barker has always had a passion for singing. Following this talent, she performs at many events, including home volleyball games where she sings the National Anthem before joining her team for the game.
Barker discovered her talent for singing at a young age, only pursuing it for fun at the time. Eventually, she became serious about music in seventh grade which led Barker to engage in formal training with vocal instructor Tanya Moore.
Barker sings for many events around the Twin Ports community.
“I did a gala last year for the Fitgers Boat Club fundraiser and then I’ve done the national anthem at Canterbury Park, the horse races in the cities, and I’ve done a few of my sister’s college games,” Barker said.
An important person in Barker’s life that inspired her love of music was her grandfather.
“My grandpa bought me my first keyboard and I have a bunch of stuff in my room, he gave me all of that,” Barker said.
Barker’s cousin Abby Barker detailed that at a young age they would pretend to be a part of America’s Got Talent and make music videos along with their cousins.
Even though she performs in front of large crowds, Barker said that the feeling of nervousness will never go away, especially when performing in front of her peers.
Maintaining the tradition, Barker will continue to sing the National Anthem at her games and keep pursuing other opportunities involving music around the community.
