Sharing the field and mat might cause some competition, but that’s not the case for senior Dominic Lyons and junior Jacob Lyons. The brothers have played football and wrestled together for three years.
Although they play the same sports, their playing styles are different. Dominic Lyons is a physical player who uses his mix of size, speed, and wrestling skills to make an impact on the edge of the defensive line. Jacob Lyons is a wide receiver and safety that uses his speed when the football gets in his hands, while not being afraid to use his shoulder to make tackles defensively.
“Both Jacob and Dom are hardworking individuals that lead by example, not being ones to complain about having to put the work in. Both are very trustworthy individuals who model the Marks of Excellence and are great role models for younger Spartans,” said coach Nicholas Long.
For the duo, playing on the same team is special. They get to grow alongside each other in the sports they love playing, push each other to be better, and always have each other’s backs. There is healthy competition between the two, as they always try to be better than the other. They feed off of each other’s growth, which motivates them to try as hard as they can.
“My favorite memory from sports with Jake is probably when we both got a touchdown in the same game. I was so happy, I ran across the field when I saw him score to go celebrate with him,” Dominic Lyons said.
Not only are they brothers but are each other’s built-in best friend. They’ve always had each other through everything, sharing certain traditions and the sports that they love to play is very important to them.
“The night or day before we both pray together and get some food from Walmart for the bus rides,” Jacob Lyons said.
For Dominic Lyons and Jacob Lyons, sharing the same sports is about more than just winning or losing. It’s about sharing life’s moments, big and small, together. From pre-game prayers to Walmart runs, their bond is strengthened by every shared experience.
