Youth hockey coach Scott Olson had a hard decision to make this summer with his family; he did not want to lose his position within the youth organization, but really wanted to think about what he could offer to the girls High School hockey team.
Olson has been coaching since he started playing hockey growing up in Iron Range, MN. This is where he got into reffing as well as helping out with kids. After taking about 20 years off for school and work, he had kids of his own which brought him back to the Superior Amateur Hockey Association (SAHA). Being there also brought back his love for the game.
After getting back to the rink he started getting more involved with coaching at the Superior Amateur Hockey Association, strengthening the depth of the program.
“I always tell my parents at the beginning of the season whether we have 15 kids or 16 kids, we have 16 puzzle pieces, and we need to try to make a full puzzle, and sometimes it takes them a long time,” said Olson.
Watching players advance throughout the season is one of his favorite parts of coaching. This helped him make the decision to apply.
Scott’s excitement for this new opportunity rallied more support from his family, and it pushed him to accept the position. Superior girls hockey head coach Doug Trentor is also excited,
“I have been daydreaming about the season for quite some time now! We have the talent, drive, determination, and the want to get back down to Madison,” said Trentor.
This is a fun change and exciting for all of the girls involved and they have already seen some of the things the newcomer is going to contribute.
