Senior captain Tarah Yliniemi got injured in January 2024 and was unsure if she could play her last season of highschool volleyball. Yliniemi tore her ACL when she fell while skiing. She had surgery in February and this summer to try to get back to her sport.
“Mentally it was hard, not knowing if I would be able to play and I was shocked when I was able to play,” Yliniemi said.
Yliniemi started playing volleyball at a very young age. She went to every open gym even though she could only watch. She was there to support her teammates and to help them practice.
“I wasn’t expecting her to play, but Tarah has been working really hard,” junior captain Claire Egnash said.
Egnash helped Yliniemi carry her backpack in school when she was on crutches and was there for her when she needed it. Yliniemi is very excited to be back to volleyball and to play her last season as a Spartan.
