The Spartan varsity football team faced the Eau Claire North Huskies in their second annual Tackle Cancer fundraiser game on Sep. 13, 2024. The Spartans lost to the Huskies 42-19.

Junior wide receiver Liam Flores caught a 31 yard pass from sophomore quarterback Carson Smith, landing the Spartans on the one yard line. Junior running back Taynum Clark ran the ball in for a touchdown on the next play. Clark scored for the Spartans again in the fourth quarter.

Tackle Cancer was a senior project started by senior Gavin Rivord in 2023. Gavin Rivord raised money and awareness through a silent auction at the football game, and the team showed their support by wearing pink and blue Tackle Cancer jerseys. 

This project was continued by Gavin Rivord’s brother, senior Garet Rivord, as well as senior Tanner Leno. The two senior hosted a fundraiser night at the Superior Dairy Queen, as well as a silent auction at the Tackle Cancer game. In total, the two raised over $10,000 this year to support cancer research.
