On Feb. 5, girls basketball was defeated 63-53 by the Esko Eskomos at home. Senior guard Eva Peterson led the Spartans in scoring with 13 points, and behind her, junior Anna Manion contributed 12 of her own, going 4 for 9 from beyond the arc. The girls’ record fell 12-8 and the Spartans were hopeful in returning to a winning trend at the following game.
The Spartans won a coveted Highway 2 rivalry, caging up the Northwestern Tigers 49-44, Feb. 12. Senior forward Kloe Zentkowski led the way for the Spartans with 17 points, falling 4 points shy of her one thousandth career point. Peterson put in 14 points of her own. Superior struggled all game with 9 turnovers. Despite this, the girls still found a way to get the job done.
Northwestern’s freshman forward Jillian Kunert came out strong against the Spartans. Kunert has been a big piece of the Tiger puzzle this year. She caused a lot of problems in the paint for the Spartans resulting in minimal shots from two point field goal.
The Spartans will try to down the Appleton East Patriots on Feb. 23 for a chance to play in the regional championship game.
