Superior Spartan wrestlers defeated Proctor-Hermantown and Cloquet-Esko-Carlton in their season opener. Spartan wrestlers traveled to Cloquet High School to compete in a triangular meet. Superior defeated Proctor-Hermantown 51-24, credit to a dominating pin in the 172 lbs weight class during the first period by senior Nick Zahaur to really put the match out of reach.
Superior then wrestled Cloquet-Esko-Carlton coming out on top 42-34. Following a clutch performance from junior Dominic Lyons to pin his competition in the 215 lbs weight class putting Superior on top 36-34. With the outcome of the match still up for grabs, Doolittle scored a pin during the second period to give Superior their second team win of the season opener.
“I feel like for the most part our younger guys wrestled well. They were aggressive and did their best to set the tone of the match. I expect us to learn and grow as the year goes on and I am going to hold them to the highest standard and push them as far as they let me,” said Wrestling Head Coach Nick Long
