“Focus!” “Spin him around!” “Grab the wrist!” were some of the commands yelled at the Spartans Wrestlers by Head wrestling coach Bob Coleman. The motivation helped led the Spartans to collect 36 points, but the Ashland Oredockers would gain nine more for a total of 45 to take the win for the match on Dec. 12. The event would also make it the first varsity wrestling match in the new SHS east auxiliary gym.

Senior Seth Smetak won the first match for a gain of 16 points.

“It felt pretty good to set the leading match, especially as a varsity wrestler,” Smetak said.

Later on, Sophomore Darrin Lowney made the fastest takedown in the tournament with just eleven seconds needed. Senior and team captain Caden Stone also won in the last match.

The team is set to wrestle again, Dec. 20 at Cameron High School.
