Spartans continue their 4th quarter magic in playoff game against Kaukauna.

Senior Jarrett Gronski rolled into the endzone to score the Spartans’ final touchdown, securing the 22-20 win against the Kaukauna Galloping Ghosts Nov. 9. This was the Spartans’ first time since 2014 playing the WIAA Level III playoff game.

The Superior Spartans won in a WIAA Division 2 level III playoff game against the Kaukauna Galloping Ghosts 22-20 in Stiehm Stadium in Schofield Nov. 9. With five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, the Spartans clambered back from a 20-8 deficit to seal their . 

Superior scored the first touchdown as senior Jarrett Gronski ran in from the 1-yard line to give them a 6-0 lead with 28 seconds in the first quarter. They followed with a 2-point conversion.

In the second quarter Kaukauna answered back with a TD by senior Noah VanAsten, who threw a 17-yard  pass. They succeeded on the extra point.

The score remained 8-7 at half.

In the third quarter, Kaukauna scored 10 unanswered points, driving ahead 17-8.

The fourth quarter was a different story. After Kaukauna kicker sophomore Kyle Seefeldt raised the score to 20-8 with 11 minutes remaining, Gronski rushed for a touchdown with 2:44 left. Following a failed 2-point conversion, the Spartans recovered possession of the ball with an onside kick.

With 30.5 seconds left in the quarter Gronski tied the game with another TD. He then handed the ball off to junior Carter Fonger, who secured the 2-point conversion. 

 The Spartans will move on to the Level IV playoffs game, playing the Brookfield East Spartans in Merrill, Friday, Nov. 15. If Superior wins that game they will move on to the State championship Friday, Nov. 22.
