Don Polkinghorne teaches Ecology and Conservation and has few interests other than the obvious wildlife and naturistic things of life.

Polkinghorne has been teaching at Superior High School for 25 years and coaching football for over 20 years. He went to Littlefork-Big Falls and went to college at Hibbing Community College before moving to the University of Superior-Wisconsin.

At first, he wanted to go into forestry. He later changed his mind to pursue being an outdoor writer, but he finally he decided to become a teacher.

Polkinghorne’s favorite part of his job is getting to know his students.

“I get to know a lot of cool, different kids, I like them all,”  Polkinghorne said.

Polkinghorne also spends time hunting, fishing, and trapping with friends. He enjoys heavy metal rock concerts, camping, agate picking, rock collecting, and being with his family. They live in rural Wisconsin with their dog – a Norwegian Elkhound named August. Polkinghorne plans to remain in the Twin Ports forever.

“I grew up on the Canadian border, where there wasn’t much to do but be in the outdoors.” Polkinghorne said.
