In the gymnasium on Friday afternoon for the annual homecoming assembly, senior Chase Summerfield, one of the four football captains, gave his final speech of the season. He was anticipating an immense amount of school spirit at the football game later that evening.

“Two weeks ago I felt like I was a freshman, and now it’s my last homecoming. I wouldn’t want to experience it at any other school, so, everyone, come watch us bring it to River Falls,” Summerfield said.

As 7:00 p.m. approached, the stands began to fill up, and the players saw that the crowd was not that  large and the fans were not that loud. Many students also left after half time, leaving the stands even emptier than they had been before. This was a big disappointment, because, winning this game would have helped the chances of making it to the playoffs.

“After having one of the best games of my life it was sad to look up in the stands and not see as many people there supporting us,” Summerfield said.

The Spartans eventually lost to River Falls 40-16.
